Tailored Support For Storm Affected Communities

The Victorian Government is continuing to protect and support Victorians following the catastrophic storms that caused damage and disconnection across the state.

Bushfire Recovery Victoria (BRV) has now established a regional presence in three of the areas most impacted by the Victorian storms.

Regional Directors will be on the ground in the Yarra Ranges, Latrobe and Trentham/Mt Macedon areas, with dedicated teams to support local councils, government agencies, organisations and communities.

They are also working closely with the relevant control centres and preparing for the transition from relief to short and long-term recovery.

BRV has been supporting affected communities in the recovery from the 2019 bushfires and they have the experience and the skills required to coordinate recovery from this event.

Recovery efforts have been progressing across all impacted areas, with more than 1,000 emergency service personnel working around the clock to assist communities.

More than 600 kilometres of the roads network in the Dandenong Ranges have been cleared of fallen trees and debris since last Wednesday evening. Incredibly, 438 local roads are have now reopened from 482 impacted because of this hard work.

Over the weekend, 200 generators – along with accessories and safety instructions – began being delivered to houses expected to be without power until July. Volunteers from VICSES and the CFA, as well as Australian Defence Force personnel, are working around-the-clock get the generators to the people who need them.

Nearly 80 homes have been assessed as eligible for a generator and deliveries have begun. Eligible households have been directed to contact local family and community service organisation Windemere, who will assess need and prioritise distribution.

More than $449,000 has been provided to date for affected households to get the necessary support during recovery.
