Communities To Have A Say In New Parks

The Andrews Labor Government is inviting the community to have their say on what 1,000 hectares of new and improved parks in Melbourne’s western and south eastern suburbs will look like.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio said new parks will be created at Clyde, Werribee and Deanside, while two parks in Werribee and Melton South will be improved.

The parks are part of the $154 million Suburban Parks Program which will provide 6500 hectares of new and upgraded, accessible green space for communities in Melbourne’s growing outer suburbs.

Parks improve people’s health and wellbeing – including by reducing social isolation – and are important for our environment – protecting creek corridors and conservation areas, and contributing to efforts to tackle climate change.

Victorians are invited to share their ideas and feedback from May to June on what they would like to see in the parks. These ideas are the first step in developing plans for the parks, which will then be shared with the community for further input.

“These parks will make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of people in these communities – providing green open space for people to stretch the legs, clear the head and catch up with friends.”
